Research

Research done through the Fulton Library on UVU Campus provided me with information on best practices for creating training for adults learners, as well as important research on what type of information new supervisors need the most.

Research

Years of research by the Gallup organization has culminated in several books on developing leadership skills. Part of the training for new supervisors is to provide them with a copy of this book and have them take the online strengths assessment to help them understand how to develop leadership skills and how to leverage their strengths in everyday interactions with their staff.

The American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) provides materials designed to be a practical, hands-on road map to help trainers quickly develop training materials. I was able to find one geared towards developing training for new supervisors which was helpful for me as far as determining which topics were most important to cover as well as ideas on how to present the material.

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) is a professional and educational organization for leaders in local government.  I found several publications extremely useful in developing my training units because the research is directed specifically towards employees in local government.
